Best Contour Palettes – The hierarchy of Kits

Now I am not one to completely sculpt my face everyday with a contour kit, however, by subtly using a contour set on my complexion I feel as though my natural shape and features are enhanced and illuminated. Without further adieu I give you my top 3, and an added bonus kit, that I feel are perfect for beginners or makeup savvy enthusiasts.

Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette/kit

A fandom has begun with this contour palette. It is the definition of a cult product, bought and loved by thousands of wannabe makeup artists and youtubers worldwide. On the Anastasia site, it’s a regular occurrence that it is out of stock due to this united appreciation of such a remarkable product. With 6 fine milled and highly pigmented powders, 3 highlighters and 3 contour colours, there is no wonder that it is talk of the internet-town. The highlighting colours of vanilla, undertones of matte pale pink, and banana, undertones of matte yellow, highlights under the eyes and ridge of nose. The sand, a soft shimmer, illuminates cheekbones and under the brow. Fawn and Java, hues of brownish grey, contours under the cheekbones, jaw and nose. While Havana warms up the forehead, adding dimension and shape to the overall look and general bronzing to the complexion.

This is another finely milled pressed powder kit, with three hues – a cool toned taupey brown, warm bronze shade and a highlighter with pinkish yellow undertones. These three colours are highly pigmented and blendable which eliminates that streaky effect that can result from cream contour kits. It is also highly buildable allowing for a more natural contour or a sculpted look. A bonus is this kit comes with an angled contour brush!

MAC conceal and corrector palette

So technically this is not a contour kit, however, this six creamy colour palette does the job just as well, if not better in my books. Not only is the packaging very handy to carry in a travel makeup kit or purse, but it also doubles as, what it is meant to be, a conceal and corrector palette! The product comes in a range of four palettes that seems to suit varying complexions. However, due to its concealing property it creates a bit of sheen and, therefore, you should never skip the setting process.

Mehron Celebre Pro-HD Cream Contour and Highlight Palette

Now this is just an extra addition to the list of contour kits. For the complete makeup enthusiasts who are looking for multiple sculpting options for different occasions or a more diverse palette for commercial work, this cream palette has 12 extremely blendable hues, both cool and warm tones, which can work with basically any complexion. However, be weary of the packaging. It is a soft casing and so unlike other kits that can be stacked, Mehron Palette can be easily dented or the cover bent. That being said, it is a lightweight ECO friendly packaging, which personally is a huge positive, and the products are filled with Vitamin E, pomegranate, and aloe vera, oil-free and fit for sensitive skin – keeping skin hydrated and healthy.

  2. I’m new to the whole contouring craze and I don’t go crazy with it by any means, but a subtle highlight and a dab of bronzer in the right areas can make all the difference! Thanks for this post! ❤
